INCI Name: Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate
CAS Number: 183476-82-6
Description
Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate is a very stable, oil-soluble Vitamin C ester but has no inherent capabilities as an antioxidant. It is essential that Vitamin C be released from Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate in human tissues or cells to obtain any antioxidant effect. Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate is truly a precursor of Vitamin C, the release of which reduces cell damage triggered by UVB and suppresses UV-induced melanogenesis through ROS scavenging. It is prudent to include an effective antioxidant in Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate formulations.
Benefits
- Improved stability against heat and oxidation compared to Vitamin C
- Easy to formulate due to lipophilicity
- Reduces melanin synthesis by tyrosinase inhibition
- Reduces UV-induced cell damage
- Increases Collagen synthesis and reduces its degradation
- Improved stability & performance when combined with Acetyl Zingerone
Applications
- Corrects & prevents intrinsic & extrinsic ageing
- Reduces UV-induced pigmentation, even toning
