INCI Name: Cetearyl Alcohol

CAS Number: 67762-27-0

Description

Ceto stearyl Alcohol 50/50 MB is a white solid with C16 to C18 chain principally from palm oil RSPO Mass Balance. It has a soft, dry, and unctuous skin feel. An extremely common multitasker ingredient that gives your skin a nice soft feel (emollient) and gives the body to creams and lotions. It also helps to stabilize emulsions but could act as a co-emulsifier. Its typical use level in most cream-type formulas is 2-3%.  It’s a so-called fatty alcohol, a mix of cetyl and stearyl alcohol, the other two emollient fatty alcohols.  This product is ideal for thick and stable emulsions.

Benefits/Applications

  • Consistency-enhancer for O/W emulsions
  • Give a pleasant soft skin feel
  • Vegetable-based raw materials

Usage

  • Cetearyl Alcohol is especially suitable as a viscosity builder/stabilizing agent in O/W creams and lotions.

Formulation Guide

For the formulation of classic O/W emulsion, we recommend a combination of cetearyl alcohol with glyceryl stearate.
Further manufacturing conditions correspond to
the principles of common processing for O/W
emulsions.

We recommended melting cetearyl alcohol together with the oil phase at around 70°C.

Suggested usage concentration
1.0 – 5.0%
