INCI Name: Kojic Acid Dipalmitate

CAS Number: 79725-98-7

Description

Kojic Acid Dipalmitate is a modified Kojic Acid derivative. KAD not only overcomes Kojic Acid’s instability to light, heat and metal ions but also keeps Kojic Acid’s excellent properties of inhibiting tyrosinase activity and preventing melanin formation in human skin. KAD has excellent effects in conditioning skin, fighting age spots, stretch marks, freckles and general skin pigmentation disorders of the face and body.

Benefits

  • Brightening skin: Kojic Acid Dipalmitate significantly enhances the inhibitory effect on tyrosinase activity, thus better at preventing melanin formation.
  • Solubility: Oil-soluble skin whitening agent is easier to incorporate into formulations and is more easily absorbed by the skin.
  • Stability: KAD is stable under light and heat conditions compared to Kojic Acid
  • pH stability: KAD is stable in a wide pH range of 4-9, providing flexibility for formula designers.
  • Colour stability: KAD is stable to pH, light, heat and oxidation, and does not react with metal ions, resulting in colour stability.

Application

  • Sunscreens and after-sun products
  • Makeup products
  • Skin lightening products
  • Anti-aging products
  • Creams and lotions

Formulation Guide

Dosage (Range): 1% - 5%.

Recommended Dosage: 3%.

Stable in pH range:  5.0—8.0.

Solubility: Dispersible in oil.

Processing

  • KAD is difficult to incorporate into the formulation because it tends to precipitate in the form of crystals.
  • To solve this problem, add isopropyl palmitate or isopropyl myristate to the oil phase.
  • Heat the oil phase to 80℃ for about 5 minutes so that KAD completely dissolves.
  • Then add the oil phase to the water phase for emulsification at the same temperature for 10 minutes or so.
